Rent increase notice

Prepare a draft with the rent amounts, tenancy details, and a verified effective date. Local notice and delivery rules still need checking.

Details for your draft

Amounts are editable examples. Names, dates, and unfilled details appear as placeholders.

Changing a field rebuilds the draft and replaces direct edits. Finish the fields before revising the final wording.

Editable draft

$90.00 monthly increase; 5%.

Complete every placeholder and verify local wording, timing, and delivery requirements before using this draft.

Edits stay in this page. No letter is sent or saved to an account.

Put the amount and effective date in plain view

The draft separates current monthly base rent, proposed new monthly base rent, and the monthly change. Identify the rental address and unit, the people involved, and the agreement or tenancy being addressed. Leave a field blank when it needs verification; the letter keeps a visible placeholder.

The initial $1,800 to $1,890 example is a $90 monthly increase, or 5%. Those are editable arithmetic inputs, not a lawful increase for a particular property. Use the rent increase calculator to compare other amounts and the 12-month cost difference.

Check these details before choosing a date

A date printed on a letter is not a calculation of a legally sufficient notice period. The tenancy type, applicable agreement, address, prior changes, coverage under local rules, and delivery method can all require separate review. This editor deliberately leaves the effective date blank.

For a California tenancy, read the California rent-increase guide and the current government handbook below. Do not apply one state’s notice rules to every rental, or assume that a longer notice makes an otherwise impermissible amount valid.

Keep the delivery record factual

The optional delivery field is for an actual date and method after delivery. It is not a certificate that a legal requirement has been met. Keep the completed notice, supporting calculations, and relevant delivery record with the tenancy records.

This draft changes no account, sends no message, and collects no lead. Complete the fields first, then revise the wording in the letter pane. Download creates a plain-text file; print uses a letter-only layout.

Questions, answered

How many days of notice should I enter?

The template does not select a notice period or calculate a legal effective date. Check the tenancy, lease, applicable state and local requirements, and delivery method before choosing the effective date.

Can this notice change rent during a fixed-term lease?

The editor cannot determine whether a change is permitted. Review the actual agreement and applicable rules. A correctly calculated percentage does not establish a right to change the rent.

Does copying or printing the letter serve the notice?

No. Copy, download, and print only create a local draft. Delivery and proof of service are separate. Record the actual delivery facts only after using the method required for the tenancy.

Can I edit the wording myself?

Yes. Update the structured fields first, then edit the draft text directly. Changing a field rebuilds the text and replaces direct edits. Copy, download, and print use the text currently in the editor.
